Cheval is the peak of what Matt Royal makes, and the most exclusive mattress in our collection. Handmade in Greece from successive layers of natural materials — horsehair, cashmere-soft wool and cotton — above a precision spring system that combines small spring tablets with mini pocket springs. Every layer in it is chosen for one purpose: to support your body precisely and keep the sleeping surface dry and temperate.

A luxurious fabric secured with tufting buttons that hold the inner layers in position and stop them shifting over the years.
Wool regulates the temperature of the sleeping surface and absorbs moisture, giving a warm feel in winter and a moderate one in summer, and keeping the sleeping environment dry.
The material that sets Cheval apart: natural fibres that are sterilised and then formed into sheets, creating an exceptionally dry internal climate and regulating the mattress’s humidity with high efficiency in heat and cold alike.
A separating layer that acts as an air channel between the natural materials and the spring system, helping release heat and moisture.
A layer that moulds to the contours of the body and relieves pressure on the shoulders and hips, adding softness above the support coming from below.
Small spring discs distributed across the surface of the mattress, working as a second support layer above the springs and distributing weight more precisely than a single spring system can.
Independent pocket springs of a smaller diameter than usual, so more of them fit into the same area and support becomes more precise at every point of the body. Each spring moves on its own, so partner movement is far less noticeable. The count rises with larger sizes.
A foam frame surrounding the spring core that supports the sides of the mattress and prevents edge collapse.
A foam base beneath the spring system that keeps the mattress structure stable and level.
Natural fibres taken from the mane and tail of the horse, sterilised and then formed into sheets placed inside the mattress. Their advantage is that they create an exceptionally dry internal climate and regulate humidity, so the mattress stays comfortable in heat and cold alike. It is one of the most expensive and rarest materials in mattress making.
Mini pocket springs are smaller in diameter, so a greater number fit into the same area. The result is a finer response: instead of a whole zone responding to a single pressure, each spring responds to the point directly above it.
No. This mattress has a single sleeping side, because the arrangement of natural materials and spring tablets is designed for the top face only. We recommend reversing its head-to-foot orientation every 3 months to spread the load, without flipping it.
Yes, to a high degree. The high density of independent springs means each one moves on its own, so very little vibration travels across to the other side.
Yes. We provide a dedicated space in our showroom where you can try the mattress in quiet and complete privacy.
The most requested sizes for master bedrooms are 180×200 and 200×200. To measure correctly, measure the inside of the bed frame rather than your old mattress. Browse the rest of the options in the mattress collection.
